Here's what's new on the website this month:
-New Success Stories including one about a woman who is going back to
school, is a sculptress, and does volunteer work at the local Veterans Affairs
Medical Center. Another is about a blind guy and his team winning a national
motorsports race this year, and the third is a personal story of Sarah, who is on the Board of Directors of the OUTA Sight Foundation. Sarah's story is
particularly interesting because her life experience as a visually challenged person is very typical, yet is an example of someone who has totally integrated
herself into mainstream society.
-Check out Employment Topics. There's a wonderful opportunity to be a
blood donor recruiter for the Red Cross with training for the visually challenged person, withguaranteed employment upon successful completion of the training
at one of the many regional facilities. If you scroll down to the bottom of this section, you can see immediately if there is a recruiting facility near
you. This could be a great, secure job.
-In Medical Topics, there are several new entries including one on the role of light in retinitis pigmentosa, the development of a "bionic eye"
and a third article on gene therapy for retinal diseases.
-In Research Study Opportunities, Brigham and Women's Hospital is
looking for thousands of visually challenged women to participate in a study exploring the health status of visually challenged women. Participation in
these studies are critical in achieving accurate conclusions, so do check it out.
-In Links to Resources You Can Use there is an announcement about a
Family Conference being sponsored by American Printing House in August for
families of visually challenged children. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to meet other families as well as take away resources and ideas that
can truly
make a difference in a visually challenged child's life.
-Do you know a visually challenged person who has just graduated from
high school, or a graduating high school senior who has a visually challenged
parent? If so, you will find a wonderful college scholarship opportunity in
Links to Resources You Can Use. Please pass this information along to others.
Drop me a line-I would love to hear from you! Until next month......
Best regards,
David Lingebach
Executive Director
